May 2023 Meeting

Spring is here, flowers are blooming, the days are longer and the colors are brilliant.  After a brief business meeting, community service projects were shared - pillowcases for youth, quilts, bags and Christmas stockings for homeless and dog beds for shelters.  Then the guild was updated on preparations for our Quilt Show  - October 20-22, 2023, more details to come!

Below are examples of show and tell projects this month.

Our speaker for the evening was Joanna Ellis, member of the Westside Art Quilt Guild.  Joanna shared with us her wonderful art quilts where she employs a variety of techniques that she has learned along her journey.

Historic Zoar Village Quilt Exhibit

First Annual All-Ohio Shop Hop August and September 2023

The Ohio Shop Hop magazine: • Will be available for purchase at all participating quilt shops in June • Contains your passport • Provides regional maps to help you plan your trips • Includes 5-7 patterns that feature the exclusive 2023 All Ohio Shop Hop fabric line • Includes a directory of stores across the state that you can use year-round in your travels All participating shops will offer the All-Ohio Shop Hop fabric line, available in August - we've previewed it - quite nice! You can join the Facebook group now - "All Ohio Shop Hop" Prizes will be awarded throughout the shop hop. When the magazine and the fabric become available, we will make an announcement in our newsletter and on social media.

February NCN meeting

 

Our February meeting was full of fun, fellowship and fibers!  Members are always able to look through our library for inspiration to take home a book or three and create.  We have many community service projects - pillowcases, quilts to make, bind and quilt, and dog beds to stuff.

After the meeting we were inspired by the show and tell of fun quilts, bags, and more!

Following the meeting Lisa Thorpe - instructor, mixed media artist, and quilter shared with us some of her many creations using inks, paints, dying, marbling, stencils and pattern play.  Her samples were delicious and inspiring.  We were treated by students from her class "Bird Box Collage Workshop" who shared their creations with us!

NCN January 2023 meeting

After a brief meeting, members shared projects that they have completed or are about to complete.  Many project were community service quilts but all projects were fun and display so much talent and imagination from the members!

Following Show & Tell and a snack, members circulated among tables of potential projects to make to sell at the Guild "Boutique" at the NCN Quilt Show coming up in October 20 - 22, 2023.  Below are a few of the fun examples that the members could make!

North Coast Needlers December 2022 Holiday Meeting

Tis the season of joy, food and friends.  2022 was a wonderful year to share quilting projects, community service, interesting guest speakers at meetings with members and new friends.  Here's to another wonderful year in 2023!

After a delicious array of yummy dishes, the membership was treated to an exciting fashion show by our very our Jean Bailey.  Jean brought with her a clothing rack and a couple of body forms of garments that she has sewn by hand and machine over the years.  

Jean sharing her hand sewn garments into "Slow Fashion" with Alabama Chanin. The garments were sewn from top to bottom by hand  - beautiful applique and hand sewn seams - amazing work!

Jean also showcased her many garments that she has created as a pattern tester for Vogue Pattern Designer Marcy Tilton.  Jean's fabrics were lovely and the designs were flowing with interest.  Thank you for sharing with us your talents Jean!

After Jean's wonderful demonstration we had a few show and tells to finish an amazing evening!  See you all in 2023!

September 2022 North Coast Needlers meeting

 At September's brief meeting a couple of the items discussed were next year's quilt show and the current opportunity quilt  that will be raffled off at the Rocky River Harvest Holiday Show this November.  After the meeting many members shared their wonderous projects filled with color, embroidery, artistry and awe.  Thank you all for sharing!  Below are just a few of the many inspiring projects presented.

After the meeting we enjoyed a wonderful presentation by Deb Strain, artist and fabric designer.  Deb has been designing for Moda Fabrics for 25 years.  Her passion for art takes her beyond fabrics, as her artwork is featured on calendars, greening cards, garden flags, books, framed printed and more.

Deb took us through her process from idea, to drawing, adding color stories, to fabric and then to the stores for customers to purchase and turn into wonderful projects and quilts..  It was a fascinating journey with her joy of art and her profession.  Deb has accompanied by her partner in crime,  husband Scott.

The 2022 Streetsboro Quilt Show Friday - 10am - 6pm Saturday - 10am - 4pm Faith Baptist Church 9890 State Route 43 (At Frost Road) Streetsboro, OH 44241 Admission: $5

Every year the guild holds a two day quilt show on the 1st Friday and Saturday of October. Guild members volunteer in several capacities; some of which include generating advertising materials well in advance, ordering the proper hanging mechanisms, placing advertisements in local newspapers, organizing and communicating with various vendors, assembling various raffle baskets, taking in all of the quilts the Tuesday before the show, assisting the judges, hanging the quilts, making labels for the quilts, and other duties during the show, to name a few. A quilt is made for this event by members and raffled off at the event. Members will have handcrafted items for sale in the Country Cupboard which is open during the show hours.
