North Coast Needlers October and November 2023

North Coast Needlers members were very busy with the successful quilt show "Autumn Splendor" in October.  The quilt show team hung many fabulous quilts, raffled numerous baskets, sold hand-made items and so much more. We thank all of the membership for volunteering and sharing their talent, as well as the quilt show team that organized the successful event.  Below are just a few of the entries from our guild.

And one of our own members of NCN won the lovely "Lavender Fields Raffle Quilt"!

After the November business meeting, members shared with us many of the projects that they have completed or in the process of completing during "Show and Tell".

Then we have an engaging presentation by artist Clare Murray Adams  "From Contemporary Quilt to Mixed Media Paint and Collage".  Clare's slide presentation showed her many projects with fabrics, paints, papers and so many other mediums. There are so many ways to play and manipulate and create!

September 2023 North Coast Needlers meeting

September brings cooler temperatures and changes in our officers.  Many thank you's to the outgoing officers and good luck to the new officers.  We appreciate all you do for the guild.

October the guild will have our quilt show.  We are looking forward to seeing all the wonderful quilts, vendors and raffle baskets.  Come and join us on October 21st and 22cd.  See more details below in Upcoming Events.

After the meeting the members shared their sewing skills and creativity.  We had plenty of color and fun with all the projects shared.  Thank you!

Then we had a fun virtual presentation by Carole Lyles Shaw.  Carole spoke with us about her journey in quilting as she has progressed into creating artistic modern quilts.  We enjoyed her many slides of projects that she has completed.

August 2023 Meeting

 As Summer draws to a close the NCN members are gearing up for the fall with preparations for our October Quilt Show "Autumn Splendor" - October 21 - 22, 2023 at the Don Umerley Civic Center in Rocky River.  Committee chairs are collecting donations for raffle quilt baskets, vendors are being booked, and quilts are entered for our viewing pleasure.  Bravo to all the members who are working are for this wonderful quilt show in October!

Our featured speaker was Cindy Oravecz of Quilters Fancy.  Cindy presented an engaging talk and trunk show of her many creations.   Cindy shared with us the wonderful world of ribbons, threads, buttons, hand stitches and so many more techniques for creating fun and exciting quilts.

June 2023 meeting

June marks the beginning of summer and the joys of gardening along with a bit of sewing, Oh the joys of sunshine, warm weather, flowers and time to play with fabric.

We always have a lovely display of projects that our members share.  Thank you to all for sharing!

We were joined by a splendid speaker and presenter, Rachel Derstine.  Rachel had a presentation of her quilts that use the beauty of the hand dyed fabrics to create simple and eye catching masterpieces. 

 

The Quilt Raffle Committee presented the complete quilt that the will be raffled off this fall, Lavender Fields! Many hours and dedication went into the piecing and quilting of this quilt.  Buy your raffle tickets today!

May 2023 Meeting

Spring is here, flowers are blooming, the days are longer and the colors are brilliant.  After a brief business meeting, community service projects were shared - pillowcases for youth, quilts, bags and Christmas stockings for homeless and dog beds for shelters.  Then the guild was updated on preparations for our Quilt Show  - October 20-22, 2023, more details to come!

Our speaker for the evening was Joanna Ellis, member of the Westside Art Quilt Guild.  Joanna shared with us her wonderful art quilts where she employs a variety of techniques that she has learned along her journey.

February NCN meeting

 

Our February meeting was full of fun, fellowship and fibers!  Members are always able to look through our library for inspiration to take home a book or three and create.  We have many community service projects - pillowcases, quilts to make, bind and quilt, and dog beds to stuff.

After the meeting we were inspired by the show and tell of fun quilts, bags, and more!

Following the meeting Lisa Thorpe - instructor, mixed media artist, and quilter shared with us some of her many creations using inks, paints, dying, marbling, stencils and pattern play.  Her samples were delicious and inspiring.  We were treated by students from her class "Bird Box Collage Workshop" who shared their creations with us!
